Ji-Sung Park

Ji-Sung Park is a midfielder who plays for English side Manchester United and is the captain of South Korea. Park started his professional career with Japanese club Kyoto Purple Sanga. He was instrumental when the club won their first ever Emperor’s Cup in 2002. Park played in the 2002 FIFA World Cup under South Korea’s then Dutch coach Guus Hiddink. South Korea reached the semi-finals and Park displayed his talent to the world. After the World Cup Hiddink was appointed new coach of his old Dutch club PSV Eindhoven. Just a few months later Ji-Sung Park and Lee Young-Pyo followed Hiddink to PSV. Park played two seasons for PSV and they won two consecutive Dutch Eredivisie titles. Park had also further displayed his talent for Europe in Champions League matches for PSV, being named in the Champions League Best XI of 2005.
Just ahead of the 2005-06 season Park signed with Manchester United. They finished that season winning the League Cup. Park then went on to have another excellent World Cup in the summer of 2006. Park also played in the 2010 FIFA World Cup and has achieved the remarkable feat of scoring in three different World Cups. With Manchester United he has won 3 Premier League titles, 3 League Cups and the 2008 UEFA Champions League.

Ben Foster

Ben Foster

Ben Foster is a goalkeeper who plays for English side Birmingham and the English national team. Early in his career Foster was officially a Stoke player but was out on loan to various clubs, including Wrexham. While playing for Wrexham he was spotted by Alex Ferguson, who signed him for Manchester United. From United he was straight away sent on loan to Watford, where he played for two seasons. In the first season he helped Watford gain promotion to the Premier League and in the second he was Player of the Year at the club. Foster was brought back to United ahead of the 2007-08 season but suffered some injury set backs, which only gave him sporadic appearances for the first team. In May 2010 Foster signed a three year contract with Birmingham. He is currently second or third choice for the English national team with Rob Green of West Ham. Manchester City’s Ben Hart is the current first choice.

Michael Carrick

Michael Carrick

Michael Carrick is a central midfielder who plays for Manchester United. Carrick joined United ahead of the 2006/07 season after two successful years at Tottenham Hotspur. His early 2009/10 season has been troubled first with an ankle injury, then with an achilles tendon injury. These injuries have also seen him miss out on the start of England’s Euro2012 qualifying campaign.

Ryan Giggs

Ryan Giggs

Ryan Giggs is a left winger who plays for English side Manchester United. He has also been capped 64 times for Wales. Giggs moved from Wales to Manchester as a kid and played for a local team, though he was signed under the Manchester City umbrella as a twelve year old. He was also noticed by Manchester United scouts and on Giggs’ 14th birthday Alex Ferguson himself came to his home, with the United scout, and signed him for Manchester United. Three years later, in the 1990-91 season, Giggs signed a professional contract and soon after made his debut for Manchester United’s first team. Ferguson had finally found his new left winger and the comparisons with George Best became a standard feature for the young Giggs.
Giggs is the player who has appeared most times in all competitions for Manchester United. He has been a key player in Manchester United winning a staggering 11 Premier League titles, 4 FA Cups, 3 League Cups and 2 UEFA Champions League titles. Giggs was Young Player of the Year in English football twice and in 2009 Player of the Year. He has also been awarded an OBE for his services to football.

Dimitar Berbatov

Dimitar Berbatov

Dimitar Berbatov is a striker who plays for English side Manchester United. He has been capped 77 times for Bulgaria and is their all-time top scorer with 48 goals. Berbatov signed for CSKA Sofia at the age of 17 and they won the Bulgarian Cup in his first season there. That season he was also kidnapped by Bulgarian gangsters who wanted to make him play for a different team. It was solved after an intervention by Berbatov’s father, Ivan, a former professional footballer. Two years later, in 2001, Berbatov left for Germany. He played five seasons for Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen where he experienced to be runners-up in the Bundesliga, the German Cup and in the UEFA Champions League. Berbatov got plenty of international exposure at Leverkusen and as a constant top scorer for the Bulgarian national team.
In May 2006 Berbatov was signed by English club Tottenham for a fee of €16 million. He became an instant hit with Spurs and was voted their player of the season. In his second season with Spurs they won the League Cup after beating Chelsea in the final. Berbatov scored the equalising goal in a 2-1 win.
At the beginning of the 2008-09 season Berbatov was signed by Manchester United for a fee of £30.75 million, which made him the most expensive player Tottenham have sold. He has been under some criticisim for not performing to his price tag for Manchester United. However he finishned the 2009-10 in convincing manners and had a good start to the 2010-11 season. He was September’s Player of the Month in the Premier League.
