Liverpool in crisis
October 5th, 2010 by FrankO
It’s not easy being a football supporter in Liverpool these days. Both premiership teams have found themselves struggling near the bottom after the first seven matches. For the fans of Liverpool F.C. this is a far cry from the anticipations ahead of this season. The club managed to keep their two greatest assets, captain Steven Gerrard and spaniard Fernando Torres, as well as bringing in some new players like Joe Cole. The choice of Roy Hodgson as new manager was also met with optimism for a team aiming at qualifying for Champions League.
The Kop at Anfield are already calling for Hodgson to go, though that seems a bit premature yet. From my point of view Liverpool should have called on their legend Kenny Dalglish when Rafa Benitez left for Internazionale. Kenny Dalglish was a player at the club (1977-1989) during their most successful period and player-manager until he left in 1991. In 2009 he came back to the club as a club ambassador and head of development. Roy Hodgson will probably have the club’s backing until Christmas to turn things around. Should he not succeed we could see Dalglish take over as caretaker-manager at least for the remaining of the season.
