Wayne Bridge

Wayne Bridge is a left back who plays for English side Sunderland, on loan from Manchester City. He has also won 36 caps for England. Bridge came up through the ranks at Southampton, where he made an outstanding contribution for several seasons before signing for Chelsea in July 2003. After two seasons at Chelsea he struggled after an injury to stay amongst the starters in a strengthened squad. In January 2006 he went on loan to Fulham, where more playtime helped him secure a spot in England’s 2006 FIFA World Championship squad. He went back to Chelsea again for the following season. His playtime was still limited, now mainly because of fellow England international Ashley Cole. In January 2009 Bridge signed for Manchester City and the following month he resigned from further England duties. This is thought to have been because of an alleged affair between England/Chelsea captain John Terry and Bridge’s ex-girlfriend.
