Edwin van der Sar is a goalkeeper who just retired after the 2011 Champions League final, playing for English side Manchester United. He is also the most capped player to have played for Netherlands’ national team. Van der Sar played nine years for Ajax, winning the Eredivisie 4 times, the Dutch Cup 3 times, the 1992 UEFA Cup and the 1995 UEFA Champions League. In 1999 he moved to Italian side Juventus and played two seasons there. When he lost his number one spot to Gianluigi Buffon he made a move to Fulham in England. After four seasons at Craven Cottage Van der Sar signed for Manchester United in June 2005. With Manchester United Van der Sar has won 4 Premier League titles, 1 League Cup and the 2008 UEFA Champions League.
Van der Sar decided to retire from his national side after the 2008 UEFA European Championship. However he stepped in to play two matches more, in October 2008, when Netherlands had an injury crisis ahead of two qualifying matches for the 2010 FIFA World Championship.
