Asamoah Gyan is a Ghanaian striker who plays for Emirati club Al Ain, on loan from English side Sunderland. Gyan has developed into one of the brightest shining Black Stars (popular name for the Ghana national team). On 31 August he signed a 4 year contract at Sunderland for new club record £13 million fee to French side Rennes. His first club outside Ghana was Italian side Udinese.
Gyan made his debut for Ghana on 19 November 2003, three days before his 18th birthday, scoring in a 2-0 win over Somalia. He has been a steady goal scorer for Ghana including a goal at the 2006 FIFA World Cup and three goals in the 2010 FIFA World Cup. In the 2010 quarter final against Uruguay Gyan missed a penalty in the last minute of extra time, hitting the crossbar. (After Suarez’ infamous handball on the goal line.) In the subsequent penalty shootout Gyan converted his penalty but Ghana lost 2-4.

It’s not easy being a football supporter in Liverpool these days. Both premiership teams have found themselves struggling near the bottom after the first seven matches. For the fans of Liverpool F.C. this is a far cry from the anticipations ahead of this season. The club managed to keep their two greatest assets, captain Steven Gerrard and spaniard Fernando Torres, as well as bringing in some new players like Joe Cole. The choice of Roy Hodgson as new manager was also met with optimism for a team aiming at qualifying for Champions League.
The Kop at Anfield are already calling for Hodgson to go, though that seems a bit premature yet. From my point of view Liverpool should have called on their legend Kenny Dalglish when Rafa Benitez left for Internazionale. Kenny Dalglish was a player at the club (1977-1989) during their most successful period and player-manager until he left in 1991. In 2009 he came back to the club as a club ambassador and head of development. Roy Hodgson will probably have the club’s backing until Christmas to turn things around. Should he not succeed we could see Dalglish take over as caretaker-manager at least for the remaining of the season.

After Jermaine Jenas suffered a bad groin injury last season he struggled to get first team football in a strong Spurs midfield. The 27 year old ex-England player admits he was tempted to leave the club in the summer but decided to stay and fight for a place. Harry Redknapp has rewarded his determination by bringing him back into the team. Jenas has stepped up his game and has played an important role in the early 2010/11 campaign for Spurs, both in the Premier League and in the Champions League.
