Mesut Özil is an attacking midfielder who plays for Spanish side Real Madrid and the German national team. Özil signed for Real Madrid in August 2010, two months before his 22nd birthday. Despite his young age he had already made himself a name on the international stage, first playing for Schalke 04 then for Werder Bremen and Germany. Özil was instrumental for the German team winning the 2009 U-21 European Championship and one of Germany’s best players winning bronze medals in the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

Gonzalo Higuaín is a striker who plays for Spanish side Real Madrid and Argentina. Higuaín came up through River Plate’s youth teams and made his first team debut in May 2005, at the age of 19. He was signed by Reald Madrid in January 2007 for €13 million, after River Plate initially had turned down Real Madrid’s €10 million bid. Higuaín went straight into Real Madrid’s first team and helped them secure their first La Liga title in four years. With his help Real Madrid repeated that feat the following season.
Born in France Higuaín was eligible to play for both France and Argentina. Initially he denied calls from both countries to join their national team before deciding to play for Argentina. He was Argentina’s top scorer in the 2010 FIFA World Cup with four goals, including a hat-trick against South Korea.

Diego Milito is a striker who plays for Italian side Inter Milan and the Argentinian national team. After leaving Argentinian club Racing in 2004, Milito played for Italian side Genoa before going to Real Zaragoza in Spain. At Zaragoza he played with his younger brother Gabriel, a defender. Diego had three outstanding seasons at Zaragoza but when they were relegated he transferred back to Genoa in Italy. Milito only played one more season for Genoa, who received a huge interest from major European clubs to sign him. In May 2009 it was Internazionale who secured his signature. In Milito’s first season there Inter won the treble, including the UEFA Champions League. Milito finished as Inter’s top scorer and was later named 2010 Player of the Year in Europe. He also played for Argentina in the 2010 FIFA World Championship.

Raúl is a Real Madrid legend though in fact he started his youth career at Atlético Madrid. He arrived at Real Madrid in 1992 and is their all-time top goalscorer with 228 goals. Raúl is also the all-time top goalscorer in Champions League with 66 goals. On 28 July 2010 he signed a 2-year contract with German side Schalke 04. Raúl has played 102 times for Spain and scored 44 goals. That is a goal scoring record for Spain which has recently been equalled by David Villa.
