Wayne Bridge is a left back who plays for English side West Ham, on loan from Manchester City. He has also won 36 caps for England. Bridge came up through the ranks at Southampton, where he made an outstanding contribution for several seasons before signing for Chelsea in July 2003. After two seasons at Chelsea he struggled after an injury to stay amongst the starters in a strengthened squad. In January 2006 he went on loan to Fulham, where more playtime helped him secure a spot in England’s 2006 FIFA World Championship squad. He went back to Chelsea again for the following season. His playtime was still limited, now mainly because of fellow England international Ashley Cole. In January 2009 Bridge signed for Manchester City and the following month he resigned from further England duties. This is thought to have been because of an alleged affair between England/Chelsea captain John Terry and Bridge’s ex-girlfriend.

Wayne Rooney is a striker who plays for English side Manchester United and England.
Rooney grew up in Liverpool where he supported his local side Everton. He joined their youth squad at the age of ten and signed a professional contract at seventeen. He played two seasons for Everton but his ambitions led him wanting to play for a bigger club. After Euro 2004 where Rooney played for England, Manchester United bought him for £25.6 million, outbidding Newcastle in the process.
Rooney made his debut for Manchester United in September, in a Champions League match against Turkish club Fenerbahçe. United won 6-2 with Rooney scoring a hat-trick and making one assist. That season Rooney won the Young Player of the Year award, which he repeated the following season. He won his first trophy with Manchester United in the 2005-06 League Cup, while they the following season won the Premier League and were runners-up in the FA Cup. This has been followed up with 2 more Premiership titles, 1 more League Cup and winning the 2008 UEFA Champions League. Rooney was also named as Player of the Year after the 2009-10 season in England. However that season ended on a less successful note, with England’s hugely disappointing performance at the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa. Many have blamed Rooney’s lack of goals as the perhaps biggest reason. Starting the 2010-11 season has also been disappointing for Rooney and the Manchester United fans, with their star striker not at his normal self, still not finding the back of the net. On 19 October 2010 it was announced that Rooney would not sign a new contract with Manchester United. It was assumed that he would move to rivals Manchester City, Chelsea or Spanish giants Real Madrid. However a couple of days later United manager Sir Alex Ferguson had managed to convince Rooney to stay with United. He signed a new and improved 5 year contract with the club.
