Benoît Assou-Ekotto

Benoît Assou-Ekotto is a left back who plays for English side Tottenham and Cameroon. He was born in France an like his older brother Mathieu he came through the youth system at Lens. He made his first team debut in the French Ligue 1 four days after his 20th birthday. Within the next two seasons Assou-Ekotto had a reputation as one of the best left backs in the country.
After the 2005-06 season Martin Jol brought Assou-Ekotto to Tottenham. He battled his way straight into the first XI. However in December 2006 he picked up a bad knee injury and the next two years he almost didn’t play any first team football under Juande Ramos. When Harry Redknapp took over at the club Assou-Ekotto finally got his revival. Since the end of the 2008-09 season he has been a regular starter for Spurs.
Assou-Ekotto made his debut for Cameroon in February 2009 and also played in all their matches in the 2010 FIFA World Cup, alongside his Tottenham team mate Sébastien Bassong.

    Assou-Ekotto is estimated to be out for three weeks. However BAE himself is hoping to be back already on May 10th, targeting the Man City game.
