Ćorluka playing for Spurs

Vedran Ćorluka is a right back who plays for Bayer Leverkusen (on loan from Tottenham Hotspur) and Croatia. He first arrived in England in August 2007, when Manchester City acquired him from Dinamo Zagreb. Ćorluka quickly settled into English football but only played one full season for Manchester City. Only a few matches into the 2008-09 season he transfered to Tottenham, joining up with his best friend Luka Modrić.
Ćorluka soon found himself as first-choice right back at Tottenham as well. He has also on occasion played in central defense for Spurs and at City he was also tried as defensive midfielder. Early in the 2010-11 season found him dropped to the bench. Ćorluka picked up an injury while there were in-form performances from Younes Kaboul and Alan Hutton. Most of the first part of the season saw Hutton taking his chance at right back for Spurs, with his pace and attacking style. Ćorluka on his side offers a great ability to read the game and regularly delivers his trade mark diagonal passes inside the full back, providing regular right winger Aaron Lennon with ammunition. Ćorluka and Lennon seem to have a great understanding of each other, often seen in the previous season. On January 1st 2011 Ćorluka came on as an early substitute for an injured Alan Hutton and grabbed his chance by putting on a solid display. Together with his mate Modrić the two croats were voted Spurs’ best in a 1-0 win against Fulham.
In the 2011/12 season Corluka again found his chances limited at Spurs, now with Kyle Walker as first choice right back. In January Corluka went on loan to Bayer Leverkusen for the rest of the season. He made an assist in his debut, in 2-2 draw against Stuttgart.
Ćorluka has been a regular playing for the Croatian national team, since his debut in August 2006.
